Championing children with the High Sheriff of North Yorkshire

It was fascinating and exciting to be at Allerton Castle with Dr. Ruth Smith, the High Sheriff of North Yorkshire, discussing her year in office and her Awards ceremony we are hosting with her in March next year.

Ruth’s theme for the event is ‘Growth & learning from adversity’ with her focus throughout her year on children and young people, and celebrating the practice of supporting and uplifting them in their lives.

She is using her time getting to know how different community organisations support our young people and will be working with a group of regional Champions to choose who the High Sheriff Awards go to.

Two Ridings will be working closely with her, introducing her to many of the organisations making a positive impact on children on a daily basis.

The event will focus on children’s charities and community groups who work with children and young people around six themes:

  • Resilience
  • Creativity
  • Strategic Direction
  • Reflective Practice
  • Children’s voice
  • Trauma informed leadership

It was really good to be back at Allerton Castle making plans to help raise awareness to the role and impact community organisations have on children and young people and giving people an opportunity to learn and invest in it.
