Emergency fund launched for community groups in Hull
We are deeply saddened by the acts of violence, destruction, intimidation and racism that took place across the country over the weekend, including in Hull.
As a local community foundation, we know that acts like these have both short and long-term consequences for all communities in the city, including disruption, economic hardship, fear and loss of trust. We also know they will likely have the greatest impact on Hull’s most vulnerable residents.
We are heartened by the generosity of so many volunteers who assisted with the clean-up on Sunday morning. Their acts of practical solidarity are a clear example of the city’s strengths and resources to repair the damage. We know that such activity will be crucial to ongoing efforts to create thriving, connected communities in Hull.
At Two Ridings Community Foundation, we are keen to support community-led responses to the weekend’s events, both now and over the months ahead.
As an immediate first step, we are opening a Hull Emergency Community Response Fund for the month of August. This fund will operate on a rolling basis and support immediate crisis response activities. Full details of how to apply are available here.
For longer-term responses, we encourage groups to apply to the Hull Community Fund, the deadline of which is the end of August. Full details of how to apply to the Hull Community Fund are also available on our website here.
Alongside these immediate steps, we will continue to listen to community groups at the forefront of these efforts to ensure that we are responsive to evolving needs and opportunities. As part of our HEY Confident Futures leadership programme, we will also convene and explore opportunities for dialogue and action in response to recent events.
We encourage community groups to contact us if you feel we can assist with your efforts now.
