Harrogate Borough Council contributed £30,000 in 2018 and 2019, which together with funding from the Harry Bolland Trust Fund and other local donors and fundraising, enabled us to award grants between £200 and £3000 in 2018 and we expect to do the same in 2019.
Priority will be given to applicants that can clearly demonstrate how they are working to address the following themes identified in the Two Ridings Community Foundation’s Vital Signs report for the Harrogate district
- Inequality & hidden poverty
- Mental health & wellbeing
- Loneliness & social isolation
The main application round will open 1st July 2019, however we are currently seeking expression of interests from groups in the area for The High Sheriff’s Dragons Den Event to be held in September. Please see below for further information.
Size of grants
In this first funding round, grants were available of between £200 and £3000. We will review this in advance of the second round in 2019 opening.
Who can apply?
Please read our ‘How to Apply’ page for information on general eligibility.
Grants are targeted at small organisations with charitable aims where a small amount of money can make a significant difference. Applicants must be based in and/or working in the area served by Harrogate Borough Council.
The fund aims to grow local giving and provide a sustainable source of funding for small voluntary and community groups, small charities and other types of not for profit organisations provided that they can clearly demonstrate that the purpose of the organisation is wholly charitable.
How to apply?
Applications are only considered complete when all supporting documentation has been received either attached to the online application or posted to the office as paper copies.
When to apply?
Applications for THE LOCAL FUND for the Harrogate District are currently closed, we will open for applications for 2019 on 1st July 2019.
We will be selecting a small selection of local groups to take part in a Dragons Den style event to secure a donation for their organisation and to showcase the vital work of smaller charities and community groups in the Harrogate district of North Yorkshire (typically organisations with a turnover of less than £100,000). Any group selected to “pitch” will receive a donation; these will vary in size depending on the donations raised but we would anticipate them to be in the order of £2,500 to £5,000. These donations can go towards any project or running costs, you just have to make your case for funding to the Dragons.
