THE LOCAL FUND for the Harrogate District

The Local Fund for the Harrogate District has been established to provide a sustainable source of funding to which local Harrogate district charitable or community organisations can apply to get funding to support projects & activities that benefit local communities & residents for the long term.

To view the 2019 Performance statistics for the fund click here Year202019Dashboard and see the link below for 2019 successful applicants. The fund did not operate during 2020 but recommenced in 2021. See here for list of awards made The LOCAL FUND record of decisions 2021

Harrogate Borough Council contributes £30,000  per annum which together with funding from the Harry Bolland Trust Fund, proceeds from THE LOCAL LOTTO and other local donors and fundraising, enables us to award grants between £200 and £3000.

In this current round for 2020/2021, the focus was on supporting small organisations that have suffered financial hardship due to the financial challenges of this most unusual year.

Groups must be able to show both that they are in hardship, and that any funding awarded would make a difference to the medium- to long-term survival of the group. Applicants should be able to show how they will use the grant to help them become sustainable. This could be part of their long-term plans or a temporary measure in order to apply for larger funds, to allow the group to generate their own income, or to allow the group to recruit more volunteers.

Funding will be available for core running costs, for example:

  • salaries
  • volunteer recruitment
  • overhead costs (utility bills, rent etc)

This list is not exhaustive.

Groups are highly recommended to also submit a completed finance template. It can be downloaded here (click “File”, and then choose download from the menu) and once completed should either be attached to the application or emailed to grants@tworidingscf.org.uk  You can click here to watch a video for guidance on completing your budget and cash flow forecast.

Size of grants

In this funding round, grants are available of up to £5000.

Who can apply?

Please read our ‘How to Apply’ page for information on general eligibility.

Grants are targeted at small organisations with charitable aims where a small amount of money can make a significant difference. Applicants must be based in and/or working in the area served by Harrogate Borough Council. Please read the guidance notes carefully for eligibility for this round.

The fund aims to grow local giving and provide a sustainable source of funding for small voluntary and community groups, small charities and other types of not for profit organisations provided that they can clearly demonstrate that the purpose of the organisation is wholly charitable.

How to apply?

Before applying, please read the Guidance Notes  for this grant scheme carefully. They have been updated in January 2021, and you may need to read them again if you started your application earlier.

Groups should also submit a completed finance template. It can be downloaded here (click “File”, and then choose download from the menu) and once completed should either be attached to the application or emailed to grants@tworidingscf.org.uk

Submitting the finance template is not essential, however we do highly recommend that you do so. This is because it benefits your group, both as a tool for your own financial planning, and because it helps make your application and your need clearer to us.

Applications are only considered complete when all supporting documentation has been received, either attached to the online application or emailed to grants@tworidingscf.org.uk

If you need support completing the financial information, please contact Isabelle via iclough@tworidingscf.org.uk
