Lord Mayor of York launches fund to help York charities

The Lord Mayor of York is teaming up with Two Ridings Community Foundation to support fundraising for the 2020/2021 Civic year. The fund, launched on 20 July 2020 will make its first grants in early autumn.

The partnership will replace the Lord Mayor’s annual fundraising committee, this year concentrating on benefitting organisations and individuals in York by making grants of up to £5,000 within two categories; children and young people and community arts.

Lord Mayor of York, Cllr Janet Looker, said:

“I look forward to working with Two Ridings Community Foundation to ensure that awards will be made where the need is greatest, attempting to encourage educational and cultural opportunities for our young people and promote cultural activity in York.

“We acknowledge there may be difficulties attracting charitable funds this year due to the coronavirus outbreak, however we recognise the importance and value of supporting York’s young people and investing in community arts, and will use this civic year to help build back a better York.”

The Lord Mayor of York, Cllr Janet Looker and the Civic Party, will stay in position for a second term and continue as caretaker and the first resident of York for another year.

The Lord Mayor’s fundraising committee traditionally selects three local charities to support by organising events around the city during the civic year to raise money, but this year have decided to partner with Two Ridings to help more charities in York.
