Do you want to be part of our strategic leadership working to improve lives in Yorkshire?

Become at trustee at Two Ridings Community Foundation

Two Ridings is part of a national network of Community Foundations committed to supporting small local charities in our region. As a trustee you will help direct and guide our organisation as it continues its leading role in helping those in need in North and East Yorkshire, creating a connected and thriving region for everyone.

You’ll be a part of a great set of people from all walks of life, who care about people and Yorkshire communities and understand that having a strong regional funder with secure access to funds and good connections is a great thing for the people and organisations in the area and beyond.

Our trustees work closely with our experienced staff team, making decisions about strategy, priorities and resourcing as well as lending expertise and advice from their lived or professional experience.

Over the next five years we have ambitious plans to inspire investment into Yorkshire, empower people through grant making and leadership and contribute to wider positive change throughout the region.

We never forget that people are at the heart of everything that we do. Relationships, understanding and connection drives all that we do.

We are ambitious to build on our ability to deliver flexible grants programmes that meet the needs of our communities. We have trebled our grant making capacity in the last three years, we gave out £3million in 670 grants to small local charitable organisations in the last 12 months alone. We want to work with partners and our communities to continue to grow our capacity and understanding; providing grants where they’re needed and collaborate with partners in order to contribute to tackling the root causes of inequality in our region.

Being a trustee at Two Ridings is ideal for someone who wants to strategically influence an organisation that enables other charities and people to deliver activity and support where it’s needed. If you care about people and our region, and want to be a part of tackling loneliness, homelessness, poverty, mental health issues, deprivation and inequality, this is perfect for you.

We know from our recent exemplary quality accreditation that our staff team are more than capable of managing the day to day and driving the organisation forward. So you can be certain that your time is highly valued in deciding on issues such as our investments, our strategic priorities for grant making, and the resources to invest in people.

As a trustee you would attend four Board meetings a year and usually also take part in one of three sub committees: finance, investments or grants. These meet four times a year as well and are the places where you work most closely with the team on planning how we use our assets – our people, funds or grants.

You will also get the chance to regularly meet the groups we make grants to, and the people that they support, staying close to the issues and communities we serve and to maximise the impact and support Two Ridings offers.

Due to some of our key longstanding trustees retiring we are seeking the next generation of trustees, some with specific skills to ensure we have the widest possible perspectives brought into decisions.

Specific skills we are ideally seeking in some of our new trustees are:

  • Financial – Experience of investments or management and understanding of accounts of multi million pound turnover organisations;
  • Legal – particularly in relation to law relating to charities or trusts
  • Organisational management – through being a leader of an organisation either non profit or for profit.

But, just as important, we are also keen to hear from people with lived and/or vocational experience who share our passion for what we do.

We are keen to recruit a diverse range of people and draw our trustees from a wide cross section of our community.

If you have never been a trustee before, please don’t be put off. We offer a good programme of support and induction and friendly staff and fellow trustees to support you as you develop your understanding of the role.

Don’t just take our word for it, here’s what our trustees say about working with Two Ridings:

“I think Two Ridings is a forward-thinking Community Foundation, which puts people first and encourages participative processes and with values and principles that are similar to my own.”

“The reason I wanted to be a trustee with Two Ridings is because it supports local small charities all over Yorkshire who make a difference to the people living within their area. It supports volunteers and listens to small organisations who are doing a fantastic job but never get recognition for what they do. The Foundation is all about the County and those who live in it.”

“I thoroughly enjoy being a trustee and have been enormously impressed by the dedication, skills and work ethic of the staff.”

If you are a Strategic Thinker, a Regional Leader, an Advocate for Equity or a Financial Wizz, we want to hear from you.
