Katherine Blaker

Katherine is a community worker currently working for the Joseph Rowntree Housing Trust, a social housing provider in York.

Katherine went to university in Hull where her fondest memories are of student community volunteering.  These experiences of working together across boundaries of life experience to build community, continue to influence Katherine’s outlook on life.

As a grant recipient for various community groups and organisations, Katherine hopes to ensure Two Ridings adapts alongside the needs of communities and grass-roots community groups.  She brings insights into the dilemmas and challenges facing community activists seeking to balance providing essential practical support for peoples’ needs with building political awareness and power for structural change.

Katherine lives with a long-term mental health condition and is a single parent to a teenager.

She loves kitchen discos, growing things to eat and neon-coloured flowers.
