Making our sector stronger

Two Ridings Community Foundation work in partnership with a number of organisations regionally and nationally. Strong partnerships enables us to influence change in a more far-reaching way. During the coronavirus pandemic The National Emergencies Trust assigned their regional funding to us to distribute £1million in just 4 months. The National Lottery sat on our Coronavirus panel ensuring together we reached as many groups as possible, avoiding duplication. A connected region is a stronger and fairer region.

Community Foundations

We are part of a national network of 47 community foundations overseen by our membership body UKCF. We regularly engage with other community foundations in the network, most particularly those closest geographically: Leeds Community Foundation, Country Durham Community Foundation and Cumbria Community Foundation.

Funders

We have strong and long-standing relationships with national and regional funders. National funders trust us because we know our region on a very personal level.

Some like Joseph Rowntree Charitable Trust hold funds with us, other like Sir George Martin Trust and Yorkshire Funders we work closely alongside.

Joseph Rowntree Charitable Trust fund our Step Change programme for York reaching local organisations a national charity wouldn’t have the right insights on.

We also work side-by-side with national funders like The National Lottery Community Fund and Rank Foundation who we fund our HEY (Hull and East Yorkshire) Confident Futures Leadership Programme through, with a shared vision for the region. HEY Confident Futures facilitates inspiring leadership training for hundreds of social and cultural sector leaders in Hull & East Riding.

The national Peter Sowerby Foundation wanted to make small grants in their home region of their Chief Executive. They work with Two Ridings to achieve this.

We work with Lankelly Chase Foundation on our Deciding Together participatory grant making both for our work with York Multiple Complex Needs Network and Children and Young People Together ensuring local people are involved in decision making about funding from the bottom up.

The Ideas fund in Hull is run by the British Science Association and funded by The Wellcome Trust where we work with micro grassroots groups more closely on the funding process.

Connecting our region

Donors

Some of our major donors and supporters are also close partners of ours, this includes the Bettys and Taylors Group and Family who hold several Yorkshire-wide funds with us, the Shears Foundation, In-Site Property and The Moss Family.

Regional Voluntary Sector and Business Organisations

We work alongside the York & North Yorkshire Local Enterprise Partnership (LEP), Better Connect – a not-for-profit managing European funded programmes in North Yorkshire and with Humber Coast & Vale Health & Social Integrated Care System.

Bringing Yorkshire people and communities together

Local Government

Public sector bodies are increasingly looking to community foundations to look after dormant funds which they may hold, and to support a wide range of activities in their areas. We have close relationships with North Yorkshire Council  . We work with the team at the former Harrogate Borough Council (now part of North Yorkshire Council) and Harrogate & District Community Action on THE LOCAL FUND for the Harrogate District alongside.

Selby District Council made a £2m endowment to us to run the Heart of Yorkshire, fund for the Selby district.

We work with Scarborough side of North Yorkshire Council on the Yorkshire Coast Fund for the borough of Scarborough. We are involved in a number of partnership activities with Hull City Council managing infrastructure grants to local charities and the Building Better Together programme.

The Shrievalty & The Lieutenancy

We have long standing relations, and work closely on profiling raising, with each annual High Sheriff of North Yorkshire and the High Sheriff of the East Riding of Yorkshire. We also have close links with the Lord Lieutenant of North Yorkshire.
