Become a Trustee at Two Ridings & make a difference locally
- Have you been thinking about how you could make a difference in your region, but haven’t quite pinpointed what it is you could do?
- Do you love the work of Two Ridings and want to be part of it?
- Do you admire what community organisations do and want to shout about it?
- Are there people you know who want to invest in community action, but you don’t know how to support them to do it?
Stop right there!
We are delighted to tell you of an exciting opportunity to influence positive change in Yorkshire – by becoming a trustee with Two Ridings Community Foundation.
We are looking for four new trustees to become active members of our 16 strong board and participate in one of our three sub-committees (either Grants, Investment or Finance & General Purposes). We are talking around 20 hours a year covering 4 board meetings of 2-3 hours, plus 4 committee meetings of 2-3 hours.
You will also be a natural advocate for Two Ridings and keen to attend occasional events and initiatives, which will be additional hours as and when works for you.
What will you bring to Two Ridings?
First and foremost you will bring first-hand experience of the needs of community groups and the people they work alongside. You will understand the potential that can be unlocked by impactful and equitable funding, and be passionate about ensuring that our work is relevant and catalytic, particularly among those communities who experience the greatest disadvantage.
Perhaps you have expertise in finance and investment and are determined that charities have the resources to pursue their mission. You might well be able to shape and monitor our investment strategy and ensure our financial planning and controls are of the highest standard.
Whatever your skillset, you will strive to be a part of a board that seeks to draw on the widest possible range of expertise and perspectives.
You’ll totally understand that people are at the heart of everything we do at Two Ridings. And naturally you will recognise the importance of ensuring the foundation complies with its legal requirements and is well governed.
You will enjoy being generously supportive to our Chief Exec and Senior Leadership team, but won’t be afraid to challenge them either.
Ultimately you will want to be involved in a charity that is a great place to work for the benefit of people and communities of the region. You will naturally be an ambassador for Two Ridings, raising awareness of the foundation, encouraging others to get involved, and to invest.
You will also have the opportunity to roll your sleeves up and visit the vital community organisations we provide funding for, getting rewarding first-hand experience of the people we support and the vital work the organisations we fund do.
The kind of people we are looking for
We are eager to have a diverse board at Two Ridings, a group of people that reflects the variety of people and communities we work alongside in the region.
You will be a passionate advocate for community action in Yorkshire. You will understand the potential and needs of voluntary sector organisations, and want to make a positive difference to people’s lives.
You will be a thoughtful, empathetic communicator, able to listen and engage in a broad range of settings with a variety of people.
No doubt you will be a strategic thinker with the ability to contribute to decision-making around long-term direction, business planning and business development, and financial oversight.
We imagine you as a critical friend who can generously offer ideas, challenge and guidance to an experienced staff team.
If you are not quite sure if you are suitable or qualified for the role, we strongly encourage you to talk to us regardless.
What difference you will make
Your contribution to the whole of the region will be big. Your involvement will see a positive impact for a fairer and more equal Yorkshire seeing ethical investment and people and places working together.
Your input will help us address hidden poverty, loneliness, mental health issues, rural isolation, inequalities and more. You will be enriching people’s lives and helping communities transform.
What’s in for you?
You will feel good being part of a committed team delivering flexible progressive funding that meet the needs of our communities, tackling the root cause of inequality in our region.
You’ll meet interesting people – from the donors who invest, partners we work alongside, to the vital groups we support – and be part of the impact Two Ridings makes from distributing £2.5million a year, supporting hundreds of groups and running a sector-transforming leadership network.
You will use your skills making a difference in the area you love, positively impacting people in your community and beyond.
Joining us may well be the ‘thing’ that was missing in your life.
